On our way to Coba to visit the Nohoch Mul Temple, we stopped at a side road taco stand for breakfast, El Arbolito Taqueria. To all you first timers, don't be surprised if you can't find hard shell tacos because those don't exist in Mexico! The tacos here are handmade and they are absolutely beyond amazing! I had 4 of them and it was just about enough. They brew their traditional coffee in a clay pot over hot embers in an earth oven and serve it in a clay cup with brown sugar and cinnamon.

We arrived in Coba early and had the entire place almost to ourselves. We hired a bicitaxi to Nohoch Mul pyramid. Nohoch Mul is the tallest pyramid in the area elevated on 120 steps which are much much steeper than they look. You have gotta be amazed of how athletic the Mayans were.

After Coba, we were on a mission to look for cenotes that are kids friendly. Grand Cenote is one of them. There were some turtles here too!

Our itinerary was a bit off today because by the time we got to Tulum it was already packed. Although it was hot it wasn't too humid and there were plenty of ocean breezes to keep you cool. Tulum, in my opinion, is the most photogenic ruin site because it's situated right along the coastal line of the Caribbean Sea. There were so many iguanas and geckos here!

For lunch we stopped at La Buena Vida in Akumal. What makes this place special is that you can dig your feet in the white sand, lie in a hammock, feel the ocean breeze through the coconut trees while you dine. Truly amazing!

Sadly all good things must come to an end. We ended our journey by taking a dip in Cenote Azul. 

Travel tips:

Drink only bottled water.

Eat only well cooked food. That means no ceviche! 

Be extra careful climbing down the Nohoch Mul pyramid. It's actually harder than climbing up. There was a sign that says climb at your own risk and in Mexico, they mean what they say. Absolutely no young children should be allowed to climb this one.

If you and your kids are good swimmers, do visit Cenote Sac Actun. We heard this place is incredible!

For the environmentally conscious travelers, check out Sian Ka'an biosphere. It was a last minute recommendation from an extended-stay visitor but we ran out of time.
