Which do you prefer, living the quiet life in the country with few to no neighbors, or living closer to everything (shops malls other people). Or somewhere in between, like a suburb in the outskirts of town? I’m in between.  I like where I live now. Easy access to the city (minus the traffic). More things to do. More places to go. But occasional escapes to the country could be a nice change of pace although I may go crazy after a week living on well water, friending with mosquitos and cow tipping.

I had a chance to visit the tiny town of Lewiston, Maine. No traffic. Scenic drive. Great lobsters. My cup of tea? Nada! It takes about 20miles to get to the nearest convenient store from where I was at. I didn’t say supermarket. I said convenient store. You know one of those places where you pay twice for basic toiletries and such. I did find a street vendor selling Korean fast food however. Isn’t that cute? Who the hell would buy kimchi bulgogi all that crap while they can enjoy cheap ass quality lobsters for like 10 bucks a pound. Good try though. They did have awesome homemade blueberry icecream :-)

The cottage where I stayed was neat – not exactly stylish but neat. Lots of windows and hence plenty of natural light. French doors...I love. I was drawn to the lamps for some odd reasons. There is a mosquito netting right on the porch for those romantic hearts to sit and watch the sun go down. Five minutes to a nearby lake. All in all quite secluded I must say.

It was hard to escape shooting landscape in this cool fresh open air where all you could do is to feel. Nature does amazing things. It makes you slow down smell the grass and appreciate.

I have been avoiding shooting straight landscape for quite some time now. It is the misconception that landscape is all about tedious techniques and procedures such as tripod HDR long exposures etc etc which I have never been a fan of. But when I was holding the Rolleiflex (my love) in my hands I was thinking...fuck the tripod I'm going handheld on landscape. For the hopelessly romantic, imperfection is the cure!
